Mrs Zinaida Zlatanova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice,
has confirmed that the penalties for cruelties for animals will NOT be lessened
January 12, 2014 - Unbelievable but true: the Bulgarian government had planned to make changes to the Penal Code and to lessen the penalties for cruelty to animals!
The 'project' was open for 'public consultation' between Christmas and the New Year celebration (!) and following heavy protests from Bulgarian animal advocates, Mrs Zinaida Zlatanova - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice - said today on National Radio in 'Sunday 150':
"The penalties for cruelty to animals will not be cut! The proposed modification of the draft of the new Criminal Code is discharged due to violent protests by advocates of animal rights! It is supported by all institutions involved!"
Following this announcement, both MTL and OFA have sent a letter expressing appreciation and encouragement of direction to Mrs Zlatanova, which you can read below.
